About DARRIN ROSS (Creator, Director, Producer)
Darrin has been producing and directing performances for over 35 years. Ross started by producing and engineering songs with Jam On Productions in 1984. This led to various television and record productions which eventually included owning his own record label, I.Q. Records. He’s recently completed a ballet for Hubbard Street Chicago titled Dear Frankie with Rennie Harris. Darrin Ross has also composed for Boaz Yakins new film Once Again. He is featured along with his music in Insignia’s film AILEY along with the score and sound design for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Beyond The Steps PBS Documentary, and for its ballets LAZARUS, Love Stories and Reminiscin’, along with sound design and composition for Suzan Lori Parks TopDog/Underdog. Mr. Ross is the recipient of a 2001 New York Dance & Performance Award (Bessie) for his music composition and soundscape for Rome and Jewels.
Darrin’s worked with and established many artists in the industry such as Jazzy Jeff, Newcleus, Doug E. Fresh, Freeway, King Britt, Kim Waters, The Roots, Bahamadia and many more. His sound design and composition credits include Funkedified, Lifted, Heaven, Facing Mekka, Rome and Jewels, LOW, Prince Scarecrow’s road to the Emerald city, The Kimmel Center Presents, Philadanco :The Philadelphia Experiment, Same Spirit Different Movement, Impossible Izzpossible, Evolution, Champions of the Dance, BREAK! The Urban Funk Spectacular, King Michael, Fallen Crumbs from the Cake, Cool Heat Urban Beat, BREAK! and Skate, The Pennsylvania Ballet, The Memphis Ballet, The Colorado Ballet, Hot Mouth, Love American Style, Maurice Hines’ Hot Feet, The Kennedy Center Honors, Carols in Color, We Dance to Inspire and numerous dance theater works. Ross is currently touring his production Invincible: A Glorious Tribute to Michael Jackson. Darrin Ross is president of RossLive Entertainment.
About LAVELLE SMITH, JR. (Creative Consultant/Choreographer)
Choreographer, Lavelle Smith, Jr., has created the steps that grabbed our attention for decades. He’s worked with artists, including Michael and Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Chris Brown, The Rolling Stones, TLC, En Vogue, Destiny’s Child, Teena Marie, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart and numerous others. Lavelle is known for making movement a part of everything we see. He’s also a five-time winner of the MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography: “My Lovin’” (1992), “Free Your Mind,” (1993), “What a Man,” (1994), “Scream” (1995), and Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” (2003). Mr. Smith is also a two-time recipient of the Music Video Producers Award for “Outstanding Choreography.” He is cited as one of the youngest inductees into the “Gallery of Greats” and has received numerous other award nominations, including an Emmy and a Bob Fosse Award for Best Choreography. Lavelle Smith Jr. has also been inducted into the DuPont Manuel Hall of Fame.
Lavelle was recently seen on the television shows “Move like Michael Jackson” and “Better Than.” He appeared in the documentary on Dance in Old Hollywood. He has been seen twice as a guest on “The Piers Morgan Show” on CNN in respect to his being a longtime friend to Michael Jackson for over 23 years. Currently Lavelle is at the top of his game collaborating and doing workshops and lectures. He mentors new artists sharing his immense knowledge of working with the King of Pop.
